wake up call

bad habit

i admit it was a bad habit that seemed innocent enough. we started propping the bottle during her feedings as she got a bit older, particularly when we were out and about. and for a while, it didn't look like she had any interest in holding it herself. well, much to my joy, she did it!

an ordeal

wanted to capture ashlyn with her cousin, olivia, who's 3 months younger. what an ordeal! thankfully, the photographer was patient and we were able to get a few adorable shots.

kota

ashlyn LOVES kota! does this mean that we'll soon need to get a dog? boy, i hope not.

enjoy the outdoors

went out to a local creek during our pa visit. it was gorgeous -- beautiful scenery, lovely sunset, a refreshing touch of breeze. it's been a while since ashlyn's been able to enjoy the outdoors and she was just loving it! she couldn't sit still and at one point almost got away from me...while crawling!

first plane ride

ashlyn had her first plane ride during a recent visit to pa. even though the pediatrician assured us that she'd be fine as long as she takes a bottle during the take off and landing, i was a bit nervous about her ears. surprisingly enough, she did quite well. she had a few outbursts and antsy moments but handled the flight better than we had hoped.

strong grip

ashlyn is strong for such a little girl. there's even been a few times when i'm playing tug of war with her when trying retrieve something from her tiny hands. boy, does she have a strong grip. here she's at one of the indoor playgrounds in the mall. with both hands supporting her, she was determined to stand in the toy airplane.

skip the crawling

lately, ashlyn's been wanting us to hold her upright so that she can stand and walk. we were a bit worried that she would skip the crawling stage altogether. so it was such a thrill when we captured this moment...

to the park

took ashlyn along with her cousins to the park. it was her first time on the swing and she LOVED it! by the end of the day, they were exhausted!

within minutes

ashlyn's becoming more and more adventurous. since she's able to sit up on her own, we took out the play pen for her. one minute she's sitting down and playing with her toys and within minutes, i turn around and see this...

use a tan

now that summer is just around the corner, i can't wait to take ashlyn outside. she always loves the fresh air and the warm sun on her face. with her fair skin, she could probably use a tan as well =)

fluid motion

ashlyn's at a point now where she can turn herself over. it's not in one fluid motion but she is able to find a way to lay on her tummy. we're now working on her crawl but since she's not too fond of tummy time, it's a bit harder to do.

patiently waiting

took ashlyn in for her 6 month wellness check up. she was scheduled to have 3 shots and some liquid medication. she was so adorable laying on the table, patiently waiting...if only she knew what was in store for her.

 

     

surprising noises

since ashlyn sleeps in her own room, we have a baby monitor in ours. sometimes she'll cry, other times she'll coo and as mentioned in a previous post, she also has a nice shrill.  i love listening to it because sometimes i'll hear some surprising noises.

not been herself lately

ashlyn's not been herself lately...fussy and crying a bit. although she's just coming out of the clear with the sniffles, we think it's due to her teething and not necessarily with her cold. she's taken well to the ice cube in a ziploc bag. i think that's helped soothe the pain a bit. it's sad to see her so uncomfortable. sometimes when we lay her down in the crib for a nap, she'll wake up crying a loud while arching her back and neck.

when she's not fussy, she's starting to develop her motor skills. she's good at grasping her rattle and anything placed in front of her. She can also sit up by herself but if we're not careful, we'll find her slowly sliding onto her side. while at home this morning before church, my sister caught her in a good mood.

high pitched shrill

her smiles are so contagious. we can't help but laugh when she expresses her excitement in a high pitched shrill. already, she's anxious to stand. she should be teething soon...not looking forward to seeing her uncomfortable.

within reach

ashlyn has been grabbing and holding on to anything that is within reach. we were out shopping at a baby store when susan saw a cute monkey. i handed it to her to see what she would do. the result was adorable.

grab things around the house

ashlyn has been learning how to grab things around the house. here she is on her bumper just hanging out while we were cooking.

sitting position

each day, ashlyn is growing stronger and stronger. she's now at a point where she can actually lift herself up to a sitting position when slightly propped. case in point, i was going to check up on her after will has just placed her down for a nap. you can imagine my surprise of finding her in a sitting position, leaning against her crib.

ill prepared

we got 4 inches of snow recently which turned into ice and have been stuck in the house for a week (okay, that may not sound like a lot but considering that we're ill prepared for snow at all, the roads are pretty dangerous...) we were getting ashlyn ready for church and thought her outerwear was appropriate for the current weather conditions.

afternoon nap

ashlyn usually wakes up anywhere between 6:30-7:30a. today, she took a short nap around 10a, and here, a couple hours later, she's back in bed for another.

sidetracked

i was hoping to take a quick nap in the car with ashlyn while we waited for will to get off work. much to my amusement, we got sidetracked.
